As part of the Women in Aviation & Aerospace Charter’s Meet the Signatories series, members of the Charter explain why they joined the Charter, and what steps they have since taken to ensure the inclusion of women in the sectors.

Next in the series, we talk to Sharing in Growth (SiG)

Please name your organisation and explain what it does in the aviation or aerospace industry

Sharing in Growth is an ambitious transformation programme which raises the capability of UK aerospace suppliers in order to share in the growth of aerospace and other global markets.

Why did you join the Women in Aviation & Aerospace Charter?

As Sharing in Growth CEO Andy Page explained: “If we are to succeed in our vision of developing highly valued manufacturing for this generation and the next, then it’s essential that manufacturing adapts to appeal to the full demographic of society where one of the most glaring disparities is women.”

What steps are your organisation now taking to help improve gender balance in the industry?

Our scheme provides concentrated training and development programmes tailored to the assessed needs of each supplier and targeted at world class standards of performance. The training and development covers all relevant disciplines, including lean operations, manufacturing processes, purchasing, cost modelling and leadership

At the outset, Sharing in Growth decided upon a four-step approach to backing the charter:

  • Look in the mirror
  • Collate and share best practice
  • Leverage political support
  • Secure support for the charter
