As part of the Women in Aviation & Aerospace Charter’s Meet the Signatories series, members of the Charter explain why they joined the Charter, and what steps they have since taken to ensure the inclusion of women in the sectors.
Next in the series, we talk to Belfast City Airport:
Michelle Hatfield, Director of Corporate Services, tells us why Belfast City Airport signed up to the Women in Aviation & Aerospace Charter and how they are helping to improve gender balance in the industry:
“Belfast City Airport truly believes that gender should be no barrier to success, which is why we were one of the first signatories to the Women in Aviation Charter back in 2018, and still do all we can to champion the initiative to this day.
“At the Airport, we not only invest heavily in the personal and professional development of our female employees, enabling them to climb further up the career ladder, but we also continuously engage with young females in our local community to educate them on opportunities within the aviation industry, and inspire them to pursue career paths that historically have been male dominated.
“Right from primary school level, with our Adopted Schools programmes, through to secondary schools and higher education colleges, with initiatives such as our High Flyers Apprenticeship scheme and our IGNITE Youth Leadership programme, we empower young girls to embrace their natural talents, develop their skills and abilities, and explore the possibilities available to them in the field of aviation.”
